Sha Sha Higby: Inspired by the image of young bamboo in the springtime, mostly from urushi, kanshitsu technique, patina silver on wood. You can tell when I have used them for performance and can see it on the DVD in the museum. I had actually just returned from Japan where I had been studying Japanese lacquer (which is what the mask is made from) on a 6 month Japan-US Friendship Commission grant.
